Position Purpose

Mersberger Financial Group (MFG) is seeking to fill a full-time Associate Financial Advisor position. 

MFG is looking for an Associate Financial Advisor to join its growing team to service its rapidly growing client base. Clients are primarily in fee-based relationships and financial planning focus will be important. Generating new clientele for the firm will be preferred but not required. The firm serves the following markets: individuals (primarily retirement planning and portfolio management), institutions (non-profits and endowments and primarily portfolio management and IPS development), and employer retirement plans (set up and administration of employer retirement plans for companies of all sizes).

Compensation will be market-based salary along with competitive bonus based on revenue/profitability of internal team advisor joins. This position’s career path would be as follows: Associate Financial Advisor > Lead Financial Advisor > Senior Financial Advisor. Candidate would begin at Associate Financial Advisor (AFA) if there is no relevant background career experience. The AFA role works closely with Lead Financial Advisors and Senior Financial Advisors to support the client planning process and conducts much of the research, analysis, and client follow-up. Generally, AFAs will be expected to transition to a Lead Financial Advisor role after 2-4 years of experience and attainment of the CFP® designation. Lead Financial Advisors are primary point person in conducting client meetings, making recommendations, and getting information to AFAs to research, analyze, and follow-up on. Lead Financial Advisors oversee their internal advisor team, work with the highest value clients on their team, and ensure planning for all clients stays at a high level of value.

Firm Background

Mersberger Financial Group was founded in 1994 and recently formed M Squared Advisory Group through a merger with another advisor firm in 2020. The firm advises on approximately $1 billion of assets and focuses on the markets of individuals, institutions, and employer retirement plans. Mersberger Financial Group and M Squared Advisory Group is a comprehensive wealth management firm that specializes in personalized financial planning and portfolio management as well as estate planning, tax planning, and asset protection. The firm currently consists of a team of 17 team members and has been experiencing rapid growth the last several years, with an average annual growth rate in assets under management of over 25%. This position would be part of the firm’s advisor team. The firm also has an asset management team that features multiple CFAs and oversees all of the firm’s portfolio management, asset allocation, trading, and research activities. The firm has a financial planning team that features multiple CFPs and oversees all of the firm’s financial planning processes.

Responsibilities
  • Attending client meetings with Lead and Senior Financial Advisor(s) as required
  • Supporting the Lead and Senior Financial Advisor(s) in
    • Research and analysis to meet client needs and objectives
    • Preparing client Financial Plans and suitability reports
  • Developing and maintaining internal relationships to help maintain business flow and meet agreed targets
  • Managing the research and analysis of financial products to meet client requirements
  • Managing the presentation of technical data to the Lead and Senior Financial Advisor(s)
  • Promoting the profile of the business within the profession and wider communities
  • Continuous professional development to meet regulatory requirements and personal development needs
  • The technical aspects of preparing for client meetings, including:
    • Preparing and compiling financial analysis data
    • Analyzing client data and preparing cash flow analyses
    • Researching products to support recommendations
    • Compiling financial planning recommendations and suitability reports
    • Ensuring that all client requirements are followed through to the appropriate conclusion
    • Managing, recording and monitoring client annual reviews on behalf of the Financial Advisor(s)
    • Providing support for the Financial Advisor(s) allowing the Financial Advisor(s) to focus on client relationships and meeting business targets
    • Assisting the Financial Advisor(s) with client presentations and any other activities as needed

Education
  • Bachelor of Business Administration (preferred)
  • Series 7 and Series 66 licenses or equivalent (or committal to attain within 6 months of hire)
  • CFP® designation required to transition to lead financial advisor role
